Romanian Leu Firms Vs Euro, Rate Hits 14-Mo High At 4.0736

For the US dollar, the leu’s indicative reached 3.0144, 0.3% stronger on the day.

The leu opened slightly higher at 4.08/4.083 per euro, from 4.0845/4.0865 at closing Monday. It further gained ground, boosted by euro sales from non-residents, and hit an intraday high at 4.066/4068 per euro.

At around GMT1100, the leu traded at 4.072/4.074 to the European currency.

On the money market Tuesday, overnight rates were slightly down at 2.76%-3.26% a year.
