Romanian Prosecutors Indict Former Secret Service Head On Fraud, Forgery Charges

Romanian anticorruption prosecutors indicted former head of the country’s Secret service SRI on charges of fraud and forgery in connection with the illegal purchase of an apartment from the country’s state protocol authority RA-APPS.

According to prosecutors, Timofte failed to declare he owns an apartment in capital city Bucharest when he submitted a request to purchase an apartment owned by RA-APPS, although he did own a home in Bucharest.
 
The case, which targets illegal purchase of RA-APPS apartments, also involves secret service officers Ion Popescu, Ionel Marin and Dumitru Zamfir, former deputy directors with SRI.
 
The aforementioned were also indicted on charges of fraud and forgery.
