Three Romanian Border Police Officers Arrested In SW Romania
According to Caras-Severin Police spokeswoman Ancuta Carbunaru, a court issued preventive arrest warrants against four of the six people detained by organized crime prosecutors on Thursday. Three of the suspects placed under arrest are border police officers, said Carbunaru.
The court’s decision was appealed with the Timisoara Court of Appeals, which will issue a ruling next week.
Organized crime prosecutors raided the homes of several customs workers and border police officers in southwestern Romania Thursday morning and detained six people suspected of corruption and contraband.
Romanian authorities started ample raids early February through customs points to crack down on corruption and contraband and nearly 200 people have been placed under arrest so far.
