Basescu took note of the statements made by High Council of the Magistrates leader Lidia Barbulescu, regarding the intention to address the Constitutional Court on the alleged unconstitutionality of the texts within Law no. 144/2007 regarding the public nature of wealth and interest statements of judges and prosecutors, said a press release issued by the Presidential Administration.

According to the presidency, "according to the latest report issued by the European Commission regarding the progress registered by Romania within the cooperation and inspection, the High Council of the Magistrates needs to take action in view of greater transparency and efficiency within the legal system, as well as in view of improving its own responsibility."

"Considering these recommendations, president Traian Basescu regretfully notes that, despite the lack of consistent progress registered by the Council under Barbulescu, compared to the real needs of Romania, the Council is mostly interested in ways of blocking the activity of the National Integrity Agency in its pursuit of inspecting the wealth of magistrates, rather than applying the recommendations formulated by the European Commission," the press release reads.
