The unionists expected a presentation of the country’s economic situation during the talks at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest, said Marius Petcu, head of CNSLR Fratia trade union.

However, the head of state proposed salaries in the public sector and pensions be frozen for six months to cope with the economic downturn, Petcu said.

He mentioned Basescu also proposed salary bonuses be scrapped for the same period.
