ALDE President Tariceanu: We Cannot Agree With Viorel Ilie’s Potential Resignation

Tariceanu added that the Senate rejected a request from the National Anticorruption Directorate to lift Ilie’s immunity and start a criminal investigation into him, after prosecutors accused him of rigging a job contest within his ministry.

The Senate chairman said the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has lost its credibility and respect for the law due to its allegedly abusive investigations. “We cannot accept for DNA to arrange the Romanian government as it please,” said Tariceanu.

Tariceanu stressed that the reasons which made Prime Minister Mihai Tudose consider the dismissal of minister in charge of EU funds Rovana Plumb and deputy prime minister Sevil Shhaideh are invalid in Ilie's case.

Romanian anticorruption prosecutors demanded in September an investigation into Rovana Plumb, suspected of abuse of office in a land-transfer case. Sevil Shhaideh is being investigated in the same case.
