Basescu participated Friday in the opening of the fourth edition of the Summer School “Romanian Communities and European Identity”, in Eforie Sud resort.

A young man from the Republic of Moldova told Basescu that the citizens from this country encounter problems in getting Romanian citizenship.

“We are now going through a restructuring process of the state institutions and the sector responsible for solving citizenship problems will be strengthened to comply with the Romanian law, which includes very exact time-frames for becoming Romanian citizen after filing the request. I assure you that next year you won’t need to raise this issue,” Basescu said.

These bureaucratic problems will be solved in maximum three months, he added.

He admitted that the Romanian authorities were taken by surprise by the large number of applications.
