Romania Has Not Convinced EU It Is Corruption-Free – President
Asked by Croatian press to comment on the fact that the EU is reluctant about states spending EU money without transparency, Basescu said Romania “does not yet plan to suspend financing on structural funds.”
“Therefore, from this point of view, there can be no talk of spending funds without transparency. You may be confusing this with the debate in the European Parliament last week, when certain MEPs asked the European Commission for a report on Romania’s use of funds,” Basescu said, noting that when the report is ready, he will be able to pass on the EU’s conclusion.
“Until then, you have my answer: Romania has not broken the rules of the use of funds,” Basescu added.
