Local emergency service head Lucian Mihoc said authorities intervened according to procedure but the alarm is most likely false. The airport was closed for security reasons but airport manager Cornel Samartinean said the bomb alert doesn’t check out.
According to the flight schedule, a Wizzair flight from Paris, a Tarom flight from Bucharest and a Lufthansa flight from Munich are supposed to land in Timisoara Saturday evening. No flights are scheduled to take off before Sunday morning.
Ten days ago, a bomb scare on the same airport returned a London-bound flight. Two planes were searched then and nine flights were delayed after a man placed an anonymous call saying a passenger aboard one of the flights had a bomb in his luggage.
The threat turned out to be false and the caller, Viorel Anghelescu, 49, was arrested and risks one to three years in prison.
