Nicolaescu said the motion is signed by 121 lawmakers of the Liberal Party and the Hungarian minority party UDMR. He added the opposition urges the Parliament to give a no-confidence vote to block the adoption of an „aberrant law” and overthrow Romania’s „weakest government since 1990”.

Nicolaescu said it is unacceptable for the government to speed up the adoption of such a complex law, such as that regulating wages in the public sector.

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc asked the Parliament for a confidence vote Tuesdayto enact a law on education, a law regulating wages across the public sector and a law on the reorganization of government agencies and state institutions to cut public spending.

Romania’s center-left coalition government has 70% support in Parliament and the opposition’s move is more of a symbolic gesture, as the government is highly unlikely to be overthrown.
