Basescu arrived in Saucesti Tuesday afternoon to inspect works on the Prajesti-Saucesti dam. Constructors promised him works will be finished until the end of October, stressing, however, that additional funds are needed to finish works.
The head of state told constructors that he already spoke with Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely and that the Government will approve, in its meeting Wednesday, the granting of an additional RON8 million for the works. Basescu added funds will be used to build another six-seven kilometers of dam on the left bank of the Siret river, along which communes Negri and Prajesti are located.
The president on Tuesday inspected works on a bridge in Dornesti, a locality in Suceava county severely hit by floods this summer, and two dams in Rotunda-Buruienesti, Neamt county, and Saucesti.
Over 300 homes in Dornesti were affected by floods and 37 homes must be rebuilt. According to a report of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Suceava, damages in Suceava county total RON357 million. In Rotunda and Buruienesti, over 200 homes were affected by overflowing waters.
On July 14, the Government decided to allot RON40 million from the Environment Fund to finance flood infrastructure works on the Siret river, on the Rotunda-Buruienesti sector, after it had approved a decision to provide RON25 million for flood infrastructure works on the right bank of the Siret river.
