Akopov was secretary within the Russian Embassy to Bucharest and has 48 hours to leave Romania.

According to a list of diplomats accredited to Bucharest, Akopov occupied the position of secretary within the Russian Embassy in Romania on June 27, 2007.

Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said Tuesday that Romanian authorities decided to expel a Russian diplomat, after Russian authorities declared Grecu persona non grata.

The ministry also stressed in a press release that, by arresting Grecu, Russian authorities breached the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations.

Grecu was arrested by Russian special services on Monday for attempting to obtain military secrets.
