In his speech delivered at state university Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu in Cahul, Basescu told students talks on concluding an agreement for the mutual recognition of academic degrees issued by the two countries have already been resumed, and also spoke about the need to reform the education system and about Romania’s determination to uphold Moldova in its endeavor to join the European community.
In turn, Moldovan interim President Mihai Ghimpu said Moldova’s accession to the European Union has become a „must.”
„I believe we have the historical chance to change things in the Republic of Moldova, therefore, I am asking you to seize this opportunity. The power is in our hands,” said Ghimpu.
Basescu and Ghimpu discussed in their meeting Wednesday, among others, about the possibility of concluding an agreement for the mutual recognition of academic degrees issued by the two countries.
Basescu also said Wednesday Romania is looking into the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships for Moldovan citizens who study in Romania.
Before leaving for Romania on Thursday, Basescu also visited the premises of Romania’s future consular office in Cahul.
Basescu and a delegation of six ministers have been on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova Wednesday and Thursday.
