Romanian Govt Plans To Write Off RON536.4M Debts Of Thermal Pwr Plants
Some of the thermal power plants with major debts to be written off are CET Bacau, with RON45.5 million, Electrocentrale Oradea, with RON32.3 million, Termica Botosani, with RON89.2 million, and CET Brasov with RON97.3 million.
Thus, the Government grounded its decision on „avoiding the blockage of heat supply in the cold season 2009-2010 and supplying at affordable prices”.
Official sources said end-July Romania’s Government wants to ask for the European Commission’s approval to write off the debts accumulated by 35 thermal power plants until 2009, which exceed RON1 billion, and to compensate their other debts and those of local transport companies within the limit of RON185 million.
Three years ago, the Government decided by an emergency ordinance still under parliamentary debate to exempt 34 companies in the energy and transport sectors from the payment of EUR8.3 billion in taxes to the state budget.
