According to a report drawn up by a monitoring organization, oil slicks were detected in Romania’s and Bulgaria’s shelf waters, near the cities of Constanta (Romania) and Varna (Bulgaria).
The total area of oil spills exceeds ten square kilometers and the slicks are about 30 kilometers away from the Romanian and Bulgarian coast.
According to experts of environmental project BlackSea-online.com, who are monitoring the area, the spill dates back to July 19 and its origin is yet unknown.
Satellite images reveal four big slicks, of which three are in the north, close to the Romanian coast, and one is near Varna, in Bulgarian waters.
