"We hope to put this draft law on the Parliament’s daily agenda at the beginning of the upcoming session,” the minister said.
Udrea added she expects the law to go through Parliament easily. The draft law stipulates the creation of an institution in public-private partnership, the Romanian Organization for Tourism, which will be in charge of promoting Romania as a tourist destination
"We hope the role of the Ministry of Tourism will decrease at some point. I hope that five, ten years from now there will be no Ministry of Tourism and we’d all find other jobs,” Udrea said.
She also said Romanian tourism isn’t experiencing the decreases registered by this sector in the economies of other countries.
"There are problems, but not as large as we expected,” she said.
The minister added she hopes the tourism sector would grow to account for 7% of the country’s gross domestic product in 2014, compared to the current level of 3.7% of GDP. She also estimated a 15% increase in the number of tourists coming to Romania in the next two or three years.
