Romanian Judicial Inspection Profoundly Affected, Says Magistrate

Baltag says that the Inspection might have a new board that will consist of people put there to prevent any criticism from within the institution and that this will negatively affect both the institution and the judicial system.

Moreover, Baltag says that the High Court allegedly refused to organize an exam for judicial inspectors, open to judges and prosecutors, something which would be against the law and would prevent a proper reform within the institution.

Finally, the Hight Court’s intention of changing the board of the Judicial Inspection led to a boycott within the institution. Five magistrates, including Court President Cristina Tarcea, refused to attend the Wednesday meeting of the Court after the majority of members that were present at the Tuesday meeting refused to grant the Inspection with a postponed term that would allow it to provide full information regarding an audit report and build a defense. The five magistrates thus argue that the vote violates the right to defend oneself.
