Romanian President Meets With Austrian Counterpart

Basescu stated that the two countries want to establish a partnership aimed at promoting the Danube river as an alternative channel of transportation, which is also a means of reducing pollution. He also noted the touristic potential of the Danube.

Basescu thanked Fischer for his concern during the Romanian head of state’s treatment in a hospital in Vienna.

President Traian Basescu was hospitalized in the spring of 2006 in Vienna, where he underwent back surgery. In a speech in late January this year, he compared the Romanian medical system unfavorably to the one in Austria.
