Romanian Presidential Elections Runoff To See Tight Left-Right Showdown – Exit Polls

Romanian incumbent president Traian Basescu and leftist Mircea Geoana will face off in the presidential elections runoff held on December 6, after a tight first round of elections, according to exit poll results issued by CURS and CSOP Sunday.

Thus, according to CURS, Traian Basescu obtained 33.72% of votes while Mircea Geoana obtained 31.44% of votes.

Also according to CURS, the liberal candidate, Crin Antonescu, obtained 21.52 % of votes.

Greater Romania Party leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor obtained 4.22 %, Hungarian minority candidate Kelemen Hunor obtained 3.26 %, while independent Sorin Oprescu obtained 3.18 % of votes and New Generation Party’s Gigi Becali obtained 2%.

An exit poll released by CSOP showed that Basescu obtained 33.2% of votes and Geoana obtained 30.3% of votes.

Third place went to Antonescu, namely 22%.
