Romanian Szekler County Gets “.sic” Internet Domain Name

Izsak Balazs said he received a written notification in this respect on May 13, from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and the ".sic" code was attributed, as high level domain name, to the Szekler County.

"This high level domain name «.sic» is, in fact, short for the Latin term «siculitas». In contemporary translation this means «Szekler ». In medieval Latin it meant, in olden times, that self-governed community with the rights and liberties to which we refer – therefore the Szekler traditions and liberties," Iszak Balazs said.

According to the CNS president, the attribution of subdomains, respectively domain names, will commence after the first quarter of 2010, and local public administration structures, institutions, companies and individuals in the Szekler County will have the possibility to hold websites in the ".sic" domain.
