Romanian Lawmakers Adopt Report Of Parl Committee Investigating Tourism Min
The draft decision was adopted with 125 votes in favor, 98 votes against and four abstentions.
Social democrat Aura Vasile urged amendments to article 5 of the draft decision „to allow the tourism minister to prove she is innocent.” Vasile’s amendments also target to get the article in line with the Constitution and stipulate that, in accordance with article 155 of the Regulation of the Chamber of Deputies, a report will be drafted to have Udrea criminally prosecuted.
According to the draft decision, the Chamber will notify the Genearl Prosecution Office of the data and information included in the report of the inquiry committee and will call on the Chamber’s legal committee to draw up a report on the start of criminal investigation against Udrea „for deeds included in the report of the inquiry committee.”
Late September this year, the parliamentary committee investigating the Romanian Tourism Ministry’s public spending adopted a report accusing Udrea of embezzlement and called for her dismissal and prosecution.
Udrea is accused of embezzling funds during a program for Easter vacations.
