Romanian PM Urges Magistrates To Resume Business As Usual

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Thursday called on the magistrates to understand the burden their pay bonuses would put on the state budget in a period of crisis, urging them to give up protests and carry on their activity as usual.

Boc said the government would allocate immediately the funds to pay their 50% bonus for neuropsychological exhaustion, but there are not enough resources.
 
Romanian magistrates are on the third day of protests, after Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu put a stop to the payment of the bonuses for mental distress.
 
Predoiu said the ministry’s funds were depleted.
 
Following a meeting of magistrates’ representatives, trials in all courtrooms in the country have been suspended indefinitely
 
The magistrates decided to halt trials in all courtrooms in the country for three hours daily, starting with Thursday.
 
The action will continue indefinitely.
