The Government also said Romania called on the EU to provide financing from the European Union Solidarity Fund, on October 1, 2008, based on prior assessments conducted by county administrations in flood-hit areas.
„Funds were assigned based on the number of people affected by floods and the value of damages,” the press release also read.
In 2010, the European Commission will entrust a review mission to supervise the proper use of financing allocated from the Solidarity Fund, the government also said.
The government decided in its meeting Wednesday that five Romanian county councils, led by democrat liberals, will receive a total EUR11 million in EU funds for the floods that occurred in 2008.
County council in Suceava will receive EUR4 million, Maramures will receive EUR1.3 million, Botosani will get EUR2.2 million and Iasi and Neamt will receive EUR2 million each.
The money will be used to repair water supply and collecting systems and the road infrastructure affected by floods.
