"I would like to say that Romania is a country that very strongly supports the Czech Republic and Poland in terms of antimissile defense,” Basescu said, quoted by MEDIAFAX Czech Republic.

Talks between Basescu and Klaus also touched on the situation in the Republic of Moldova. Basescu said Romania will continue to back Moldova’s efforts to join the European Union and asked Klaus to support the inclusion of Moldova in the group of Balkan countries that will request EU membership.

"Regardless of the relations between Bucharest and Chisinau, Romania will always back Moldova on its way to the European Union,” Basescu said.

Another topic for discussion was the economic crisis, which the two heads of state agreed has similar causes in both countries. They also agreed both countries will support each other in terms of European and international projects of cooperation.
After the meeting with the Czech president, Basescu will attend a lunch offered by the head of the Czech Senate, Přemysl Sobotka, and will meet with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Miloslav Vlček.

The Romanian head of state will then meet with representatives of the Romanian community in the Czech Republic and will dine at the presidential palace.

Basescu will also meet with the mayor of Prague and will visit the new headquarters of Radio Free Europe.

Basescu said Wednesday morning, before leaving for an official two-day visit to the Czech Republic, that issues to be discussed include bilateral cooperation of the two countries, the evaluation of the Czech presidency of the European Union, the situation in Western Balkans and EU enlargement, the situation in the Republic of Moldova, the effects of the economic crisis in the EU and potential measures that should be taken at the next European Council.
