Romanian Auth Starts ’09 Edition Of Car Park Renewal Program

Car makers Dacia, Renault-Nissan, Hyundai, Opel and Chevrolet received the largest shares in the first stage of the program aimed at stimulating the renewal of the Romanian car park, namely 1,731 units each, according to the Romania Environment Fund Administration (AFM).

In addition, Ford and Skoda received an almost similar number of positions within the "Rabla" program, 1,632 units for the former and 1,625 for the latter.

Volkswagen received 1,578 units, Peugeot received 1,566 units, Fiat obtained 1,410 positions and Suzuki got 1,262 units.

The lowest number of units went to Honda and Lada – two cars each.

Seat obtained 650 positions in the first stage of the "Rabla" program, Toyota obtained 519 units, Mazda 366 cars, and Citroen 317 positions.

Also, Kia obtained 260 positions and Mitsubishi obtained 156 units.

Any owner of a use car can benefit from the car dismantling bonus, worth 3,800 lei (EUR1= RON4.2921), as long as they meet several requirements. Thus, those interested need to be registered with a dealer to buy a new car and need to have taken their used car to be dismantled by an authorized economic operator, from whom the owner will receive a destruction certificate.

In addition, people wishing to benefit from the dismantling bonus need to remove the used car from registries and buy a new one.

The total number of positions in the 2009 edition of the national car park renewal program grew to 60,000, compared to 40,000 in 2008. The dismantling bonus received by those who scrap their cars was increased to RON3,800 per unit, compared to RON3,000 in 2008.

Thus, the total amount of funding allotted to the program in 2009 reached RON228 million.
