Mesca, former secretary of state with the Economy Ministry, was appointed head of ARIS in March this year.

Boc also decided to dismiss Gerard Jitareanu as president of the National Authority for Scientific Research and Iuliu Cosmin Coman as secretary of state with the Finance Ministry.

Boc on Friday said social democrat secretaries of state within all ministries were sacked and their cabinets were disbanded following a split in the governing coalition on October 1.

Boc also stressed that each ministry will have maximum two secretaries of state from now on, which would entail hefty spending cuts.

Romanian social democrat ministers in the center-left coalition government handed in their resignations on October 1 after President Traian Basescu endorsed the democrat liberal prime minster’s decision to sack social democrat Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Dan Nica.
