The culprit was caught in a different car than the one he stole during his rampage, and told officers that he was “forced” to commit the violent attacks by a “silver icon”.
He was transported to the Timisoara Municipal Hospital, where biological samples revealed that the man consumed three types of drugs before committing the attack: cocaine, amphetamines and marijuana, according to judicial sources.
More information also surfaced on the relationship between the man and his victims, with relatives stating that the married couple he assaulted in a park from the town of Faget, which kicked off his violent spree, were the parents of his former girlfriend.
After attacking the couple with a club, which led to the husband dying because of injuries and the wife hospitalized in a coma, the 33-year proceeded to assault three other individuals, steal a car and run over another victim, before disappearing for the rest of the day.
Local police mounted a massive search operation for the assailant, who was caught by border police driving a car near the town of Bichigi, at approximately 02.00 local time on Thursday.
Timis Police representatives announced that the man previously received a criminal fine for another assault in 2017, and was also investigated in two other cases regarding violent attacks in the past.
The culprit was interviewed by prosecutors at the Timis Court on Thursday, and is investigated under charges of manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, causing bodily harm, stealing and driving under the influence of narcotics.
