Seventeen out of 22 commission members attended the joint meeting. The meeting was also attended by finance minister Varujan Vosganian.
Last Tuesday, the Senate’s education commission unanimously rejected the ordinance, while the commission for legal matters failed to adopt a report rejecting or approving the ordinance, as the vote ended in a draw. The budget commission also rejected the ordinance.

The Romanian government adopted two weeks ago an emergency ordinance to postpone until April next year the 50% wage hike for education system employees, voted unanimously by the Chamber of Deputies and passed by the head of state.

The Senate is expected to give a final vote on the ordinance Monday.
