Last week, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu said that a further household gas increase this fall would be unjustified as crude oil prices have decreased on the international markets.
Romanian gas distributors E.ON Gaz Romania, the Romanian branch of Germany’s E.ON, and Distrigaz Sud, a Gas de France subsidiary, have recently requested an increase of household gas prices by 10% this fall, but the National Energy Authority, which is the decisional body, has yet to analyze the demands.
Last week, Distrigaz Sud’s deputy manager, Nicolas Richard, said that he sees higher household gas prices in October due to higher costs of gas delivered from Russia.
“Now we pay USD 500 for 1000 cubic meters of Russian Gas and for the next period of time, we can estimate a price of USD 550. I do not think there are chances for this price to stay flat, but we will have the final data in September. The National Energy Authority has to decide. We will have an impact of oil barrel increase in the first quarter of 2009”, Richard said.
ANRE has last increased household gas prices on July 1, by 12.5% in average.
