Against the US dollar, the leu’s indicative retreated 0.7% at 3.5496 units, a new historic low.
The leu opened slightly weaker on the day at 4.234/4.235 per euro, from 4.2325/4.2355 per euro at closing Monday, but started to gain ground shortly after, in line with the currencies in the region.
However, it soon reversed trend and at around GMT1000 traded at 4.23/4.2315 to the euro, after hitting an intraday high at 4.219/4.222 per euro.
On the money market Tuesday, overnight rates were slightly up on the day at 6.24%-6.74% a year.
