Union representatives said the company initially decided to increase production back in the summer, due to higher demand, but, under the current circumstances, the production hike would no longer be justified.

Silcotub Zalau and steel maker Donasid Calarasi, both owned by global steel pipes manufacturer Tenaris group, merged on December 1 under Silcotub name, the group announced Wednesday.

The merger aims to implement a unitary decision-making structure and to provide a more efficient resource use. The company will subsequently use Tenaris Silcotub brand.

The merger will not have consequences upon the companies’ employees, a company’s press release read.

Tenaris Silcotub is the leading seamless steel pipe manufacturer in Romania, with an annual capacity of 180,000 metric tons.

Silcotub employs 1,030 people, while Donasid has 300 employees.
