Tax Evasion Is Aided By Public Bodies Failing To Apply Law – Romanian PM
The prime minister made the statement in the Senate meeting on Monday in which the Cabinet outlined its legislative priorities. He did not go into detail, but reminded that this year the Government would try to be more involved in fighting evasion, mainly through the National Fiscal Administration Agency.
Early this year, the Government decided to set up an inter-ministry council which would assemble weekly and find ways to eliminate tax evasion. The council includes officials from the National Fiscal Administration Agency, Interior Ministry, Justice Ministry and other bodies tasked with fighting tax evasion.
When the Romanian Police Department presented its 2009 activity report last week, the prime minister warned police chiefs that authorities would „go to war with tax evasion” this year and that the inter-ministry council would follow their progress.
