Former customs worker Marius Ungureanu said Marica is the one who created and was the main beneficiary of the bribing system, adding there is a recording of employees in the Giurgiu customs talking about how Marcia wanted more money.
Ungureanu, who said he worked at the customs between 1990 and 2003, told a news conference organized by the Pro Lex union, that he has known Marica since 1996 and has paid him $2,000-$2,500 per month between 1997 and 2002.
„Marica has founded, organized and has been the main beneficiary of this system. Chiefs of the General Anticorruption Department and the National Customs Authority have come and gone, but he has stayed,” said Ungureanu.
He added the Romanian Intelligence Service investigated the customs point in 2001 and a recording exists where a customs chief, Robert Cristoi, says Marica wants more money. Ungureanu added he went to authorities at the time but no measures were taken.
