Somali Pirates Capture Greek Cargo Ship, Romanian On Board

Somali pirates hijacked a Greek cargo ship in the Indian Ocean on Sunday with 28 crew members on board, including one Romanian, whose nationality was confirmed by the Romanian Foreign Ministry Monday.

The ministry told MEDIAFAX Monday it received confirmation that one Romanian is on board the Maran Centrauros cargo, adding all crew members are in good health and have enough supplies.

The captain of the Maran Centauros cargo told Greek authorities by telephone that nine armed pirates came on board and directed the ship toward Somali waters, according to the Greek police.

All crew members on the Greek-flagged ship were in good condition, the captain told authorities. The crew included nine Greeks, 16 Filipinos, two Ukrainians and one Romanian.
