The heatwave that hit Romania this summer affected corn, sunflower and rape crops.

Over 20,000 hectares of farmland in Buzau county, eastern Romania, were severely affected by drought, and crops were damaged up to 80% in some areas.

Areas in Vaslui county, eastern Romania, have seen no rain for a month and a half and are also affected by drought, which jeopardizes corn and sunflower spring crops.

Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu asked Wednesday environment minister Attila Korodi, together with the local authorities and other institutions, to clean rivers in areas recently hit by floods.
