Romania Ups Pensions By 2% As Of Oct 1
Late January this year, the Romanian government decided to increase public pensions by 5%, in two stages. The pension point increased by 3%, to 718.4 lei (EUR1=RON4.1981), from RON697.5, as of April 1, 2009, and it will further increase an additional 2%, to RON732.8, as of October 1, 2009.
On August 10, Prime Minister Emil Boc said the Government decided to raise the pension point by 2% as of October 1, as stipulated in this year’s state budget law and in accordance with the government’s commitments to pensioners.
Retirees included in labor groups I and II will not benefit from increased pensions as of October 1.
Romania registers a total 5,517,900 pensioners and the average pension amounts to RON655.
