The worst hit region was Suceava County, where swollen rivers flooded 1,983 households and 4,190 hectares of farmland in 71 localities, Suceava deputy prefect Orest Onofrei said.

Some 295 people in Suceava had to be evacuated, while 754 others are still cut off after the waters collapsed bridges and footbridges.

The authorities are still looking for the body of a child reported missing during the floods, Onofrei said, mentioning rescue activities are slow due to high water levels.

Romanian authorities issued flood advisories on Saturday for four counties in the north and east of the country, saying river levels were at high risk of rising to abnormally high levels.

In addition, medium and low risk warnings were maintained for another four counties in the region, meteorologists said.
