The proposition will also be submitted to the High Council of Magistrates (CSM) for further approval.

Under the law, the head of state is entitled to appoint the country’s prosecutor general, at the proposition of the justice minister and based on the Council’s approval. The law also stipulates that the country’s prosecutor general is appointed for a three-year mandate and may be reinvested only once.

Romanian President Traian Basescu signed the decree appointing Laura Codruta Kovesi prosecutor general on October 2, 2006.
