Mircea Matei, president of the National Authority for the Regulation of Public Utility Community Services (ANRSC), told MEDIAFAX that raising the price further, in January 2011, is out of the question.
ANRSC sets the local average reference price according to prices transmitted by 94 local authorities and by suppliers. The price for this winter season is 10% higher than the previous year, in light of the VAT hike. Matei pointed out that utilities bills have been using the new reference point since October and the prices are generally not changed during the winter.
On September 29, Bucharest’s General Council approved Wednesday raising the price of heating in the city to 124 lei, from RON119. Mayor Sorin Oprescu announced in October that the City would continue to provide heating subsidies.
