President Basescu Wished Romanians Everywhere A Happy New Year

Romanian president Traian Basescu counted down the seconds into the new year together with people gathered in the square near the parliament and wished Romanians everywhere a happy new year.

The president said his thoughts are particularly directed at those Romanian nationals who live abroad but not by choice, and referred to Romanians in the Republic of Moldova and the Ukraine.
 
Basescu also mentioned Romanian militaries detached in operation theaters abroad. He added his thoughts are also directed at Romanians working abroad.
 
"Happy New Year Romanians, wherever you are!" Basescu said after the countdown.
