Bucharest general mayor Adriean Videanu, accompanied by a little girl who won a drawing contest organized this year by City Hall, lit, Saturday evening, the Christmas lights in the Romanian capital, in the presence of tens of thousands of people.

The moment was garnished by fireworks and light shows.
The center of Bucharest, Unirii Square, contained the tallest Christmas tree in Europe, a 25 stories high metal structure that will light Unirii Square with two million lights during the winter holidays.
The highest level of the structure, the 3.5 meter high star, and the over two million lights decorating the tree in a unique setup, have been placed on location several days before the event.
Traffic in Bucharest was blocked Saturday evening, when tens of thousands of citizens took part in the lighting of the Christmas Tree, later moving towards Universitatii Square, where a folkloric music show was organized.
On the National Day of Romania, authorities organized a folkloric music concert in Universitatii Square, with various guests, stars of the Romanian musical scene.
Bucharest citizens stormed the main streets of Bucharest, when it became impossible to move on the sidewalk.
