Romania Ctrl Bk Makes Euro Adoption Top Priority – Governor
„I believe the Board’s main strategic objective will be to adopt the euro in 2014-2015 (…). Despite current difficulties, this ambitious objective is achievable,” Isarescu told the lawmakers.
According to Isarescu, joining the eurozone may be a catalyst for coherent macroeconomic policies.
Romanian parliament’s two chambers met in joint session Thursday to vote on the central bank’s new Board membership, after the budget committees vetted the candidates on Tuesday.
The committees unanimously voted in favor of reappointing Mugur Isarescu as governor of the central bank.
The current term of the central bank’s Board members expires October 10.
