U.S. authorities said a hearing would be set for the beginning of 2010 due to the large amount of documents Romanian authorities sent in view of extradition.
Necolaiciuc, who is internationally wanted since October 26, 2006, when police lost track of him, and whom Romanian anticorruption prosecutors have linked to 25 cases, was detained by the FBI in Florida early June. He was taken into custody for illegal stay U.S..
According to the Romanian Police, Mihai Necolaiciuc was included in an all points bulletin on October 26, 2006, after an arrest warrant was issued in his name for economic crimes.
Necolaiciuc is accused of having made unwarranted investments between 200-2003, while he was at the head of the National Railroad Company. He is accused of having purchased products at overestimated prices, causing losses of over 170 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2347).
However, the National Anticorruption Department initiated criminal investigations against him in March 2006 and the case also involves former secretary of state within the Ministry of Transport Traian Panait. Both are investigated for a fraud of over EUR27 million.
