Romania’s FC Steaua Bucharest qualified in the play-offs of UEFA’s Europa League after scoring three goals in the away match against Scottish Motherwell.

Midfielder Ross Forbes scored the first goal for Motherwell, 17 minutes into the game and Steaua’s defender Petre Marin levelled the score from a penalty shot in the 55th minute. Striker Bogdan Stancu scored twice for Steaua, in the 64th and 84th minute.

Motherwell: Ruddy – Hammell, Craigan, Hutchinson, Reynolds – Coke, Murphy – O’Brien, Forbes, Slane – Sutton. Coach: Jim Gannon.

Steaua: Zapata – Ninu, Baciu, Ghionea, Marin – Onicas – Nicolita, Ionescu, Grzelak – Stancu, Bibishkov. Coach: Cristiano Bergodi.

Yellow cards: Forbes / Andrei Ionescu, Ninu.

Steaua won the first-leg meeting of the third preliminary round last week with the score 3-0.

In the second qualifying round, Steaua had won both matches against Hungary’s Ujpest FC.

The draw for the play-off round will take place in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday.
