Blood Transfusion Center head Doina Vuculescu said the employees protested over the 30% wage cut and stressed they will continue protest actions unless their problems are solved. Vuculescu also said the forced unpaid leave for public sector staff, under the unitary pay law in the sector, would further trigger an additional 15.5% cut in salaries.

Vuculescu pointed out, however, that protests did not affect blood distribution toward hospitals. She added the representatives of Blood Transfusion Center and Health Ministry officials will meet Monday to discuss the problems triggered by the scrapping of salary bonuses.

Romanian President Traian Basescu last week signed the decree promulgating the law on the unitary wage system for public sector staff meant to cut budget spending.
