"We are open to discussions with all parties that made Parliament. As leader of a party that has recorded a success in this election, I invite all other leaders to formal talks (…) to give this country a new government,” Geoana said.

Asked whether the Social Democratic party received any negotiation offers so far, Geoana said it received “many”.

Geoana said the next natural move is to start “ample” negotiations to form a solid majority, a large “coalition” to quickly result in a stable government.

Final results released Tuesday showed social democrats in the lead with 33.09% for the Chamber of Deputies and 34.16% for Senate, followed by democrat liberals with 32.36% and 33.57, liberals with 18.57% and 18.74 and the Hungarian minority party with 6.17% and 6.39%.

As no party gained an outright majority, the major contenders will meet to negotiate in view of forming a majority in Parliament and making up the future Government.
