Romania Sept Overdue Loans Up 4.3% MM To RON6.51B

Romanian overdue loans rose 4.3% on the month to 6.51 billion lei (EUR1=RON4.2877) in September, but were more than triple compared with the same month of 2008, central bank data showed Monday.

The total value of loans was at RON200.22 billion at the end of September, slightly higher than RON199.87 billion a month earlier. Loans in Romanian lei totaled RON80.2 billion after the first nine months, while foreign-currency denominated loans were of RON120 billion at the end of September.

According to central bank data, overdue loans in Romanian lei rose 4.96% on the month to RON3.81 billion end-September. Year-on-year, overdue loans in lei surged 246% in September.

Overdue foreign currency loans stood at RON2.7 billion in September, up 3.45% on the month and 4.5-times higher compared with the same month of 2008.
