The authority notified the European Commission about the case.

"We suspected a bird flu case in a household in Murighiol. Our suspicion was confirmed and all the necessary measures were taken. All fowls in the household were culled and we will start supervising farms across the country," said Nicolae Lazar, head of ANSVSA’s animal health department.

Disinfection filters have been installed on the entrance and exit to the locality. Trade and transport of fowls, poultry and eggs have been banned.

Veterinarians and representatives of the local councils and the Public Health Authority started a campaign informing the population on the measures that need to be observed to prevent the flu from spreading.

Over 50 people in Murighiol received anti bird-flu vaccination.

Laurentiu Militaru, deputy manager with the Tulcea Public Health Authority said that until Thursday all 1,500 people in Murighiol will be vaccinated against the bird flu and in the days to come all 3,500 people living in the surrounding areas will receive vaccination.
