The National Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) said the virus was detected through the program for the supervision and monitoring of bird flu among the Delta's wild birds.

The 20 geese are located in a remote and hard-to-reach area of the Delta. There are no villages, farms or houses in a three kilometer radius around Cot Candura.

The H5N3 strain is not pathogenic in humans.

Following procedure, ANSVSA has informed the European Commission.
