The ministry headquarters hosted a meeting of the National Committee for Emergencies earlier Friday , attended by Premier Emil Boc and Health Minister Ion Bazac.

Bazac presented the Committee with a series of specific measures in case of a pandemic, pointing out that all swine flu cases are “moderate”, in line with the latest announcements made by the World Health Organization (WHO).

On Wednesday, WHO officially declared the swine flu a pandemic, raising the alert to the highest level of six.

The organization declared the first influenza pandemic in 41 years, after the infections with new H1H1 flu virus climbed to 27,737 cases in 74 countries and left 141 people dead.

Romania confirmed 11 cases so far, none of them serious or fatal.

In fact, Bazac underscored Romania does not register cases of widespread infections. Apart from basic hygienic rules, Romanians need not make any changes in their daily lives, he added.

Bazac mentioned masks will be distributed to border police and doctors who come in contact with people coming in from some of the states most affected by the new virus, such as the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
